Destroyer

Updated: Mar 6, 2019

Destroyer Movie starts with Nicole Kidman almost unrecognizable, arriving at a murder crime scene and antagonizing the policemen already there. That scene alone tells you two of the most important things about the movie: Nicole Kidman is trying something new and, based on her over the top make-up, there will be no nuance lost in this film. Spoiler alert: both impressions are correct.

Nicole Kidman plays Erin Bell, an alcoholic Los Angeles detective who seems to be unable to set herself free from the past. After apparently recognizing the murder victim, she goes on a mission to find the person responsible for the crime and to get some kind of payback.

Destroyer is a great acting exercise for Nicole Kidman, and she does a great job as Erin Bell, but this is basically all that the movie has to offer. Other than that, Destroyer is a film full of unlikable characters where growth is nowhere to be found. Most of all, Destroyer tells the story of a pointless and joyless revenge that is not worth the trip to the movie theater.
